Robert J. Scott
Managing Partner
Robert J. Scott is a pioneer and recognized industry expert in legal strategies, education, and awareness pertaining to information technology law. As the managing partner of Scott & Scott LLP, Robert skillfully represents clients on technology issues including privacy, network security and data breaches, IT compliance and asset management, IT litigations and IT transactions.
An innovative approach to legal services, Robert built Scott & Scott around the premise that collaboration between legal and technology professionals is necessary to solve complex problems involving IT compliance. By combining these resources, Scott & Scott is better able to serve clients' needs than law firms and technology services firms working independently of one another.
Robert has become a trusted resource on network security, IT compliance, and the corresponding laws. He is regularly called upon by his peers to speak about network security and software license compliance. His personal speaking engagements include various web seminars, continuing legal education seminars, and media appearances. In addition, Robert launched Scott & Scott’s Lecture Series, a guest speaker series designed for legal and IT professionals to learn from and network with other leading industry experts.
Robert has also developed several online resources offering guidance and information to clients, businesses and end-users. He publishes a blog, http://blawg.bsadefense.com/, specifically focusing on strategies to defend against a third-party software audit by the Business Software Alliance (BSA), one of the most prominent software industry trade associations representing major software publishers. He also founded and is a regular contributor to Scott & Scott’s newsletter, IT Compliance News, www.scottandscottllp.com/compliance.
In addition to his legal work, Robert is a driving force behind the design and development of Scott & Scott’s Compliance Manager, a unique software tool designed to assist users in defending against a third-party software audit, achieving 100% software license compliance, and implementing ongoing software license compliance strategies. Robert is an active member of the State Bar of Texas. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, the United States District Court in the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas, and the District of Colorado. He is a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, the Managed Services Providers Alliance, the IT Compliance Institute, and the Metropolitan Technology Council.
Robert graduated summa cum laude from Austin College in Sherman, Texas with a B.A. in business and economics. He earned his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law in New York.
